The City of North Miami Beach currently runs a 4-route shuttle system that provides free shuttle service throughout the City. In an effort to provide additional services which may be beneficial to its residents, the City is evaluating a pilot route (Route E) for direct shuttle service between the Golden Glades Multi-Modal Transportation Facility and Aventura Mall. These services provide the City with an opportunity to match the local travel needs of the residents while improving first and last mile connectivity.
The City considered Miami-Dade Transit bus routes and Tri-Rail’s timetable as part of the pilot route’s timing and development. The proposed fixed-route service is designed to complement the existing Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (D.T.P.W.) bus routes and help increase the use of these regional services. The pilot route’s timetable was adjusted to optimize transfer wait times and provide for a buffer where needed. The stops developed were based on evaluation of existing routes, including feedback from the City Commission and ridership data collection from the trolley company.
This Interlocal Agreement is required to be executed by the City and Miami-Dade County to facilitate the extension of the existing NMB trolley services to include a pilot route (Route E) between the Golden Glades Transportation Multi-Modal Facility and Aventura Mall.
Additionally, Miami-Dade County requires adequate public engagement prior to establishing a new or modifying an existing Municipality Circulator service. This action requires that the City advertise a notice of public hearing in English and Spanish and conduct a minimum of one public hearing that gives the community an opportunity to voice their opinion concerning the proposed service.
