The FY 2021 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG-C) funding has been awarded to the City of North Miami Beach by the State of Florida, Office of Criminal Justice Grants, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
The FDLE recognizes significant pressures placed on local government agencies surrounding officer safety. Realizing the priorities and the available resources, FDLE has identified several focus points for awarding grant funds.
Law enforcement health, safety and wellness are all a priority. The FY 2021 JAG-C awarded funds will be utilized for the North Miami Beach Police Department (NMBPD) Domestic Violence and Community Intervention Program. This grant will allow the NMBPD to institute the Violent Crime Reduction Initiative as a problem-solving technique, focusing on the reduction and/or deterrence of domestic violence crimes and other violent crimes, including shootings, robberies, and other gun violence crimes. This Initiative will include police officers being deployed to “crime hot spot” areas based on current crime trends in order to deter and/or reduce domestic violence and other violent crimes. This approachability will also provide care, support services, and resources of domestic violence, as well as, other victims of violent crimes from the Victim’s Assistance and Prevention Program via the NMBPD’s designated Victim Advocate.
