On January 14th, 2021, the Community Development Director submitted his resignation from the City, effective January 29th, 2021. At that time, the position of Planning & Zoning Manager was vacant following the incumbent’s resignation late last year. Simultaneously, one staff member was out of the office for an extended period due to an illness. The City obtained a scope of services for $49,920 from Corradino Group, Inc. for Supplemental Planning Services, to provide professional services similar to our Planning & Zoning Manager on a part-time basis. Our assigned contact from the Corradino Group, Inc. was Eddie Ng. This allowed the continuity of the functions of the Planning & Zoning Division, including comprehensive planning, site planning and development requests. The oversight of Code & Business Tax Receipt were moved to directly report to the Assistant City Manager.
Staff immediately started the recruitment process for the Community Development Director. This included advertising through professional organizations and obtaining applicants. Candidates have already been interviewed and the interview process is ongoing, with additional interviews scheduled during the next two weeks. Even if a candidate is selected, we anticipate needing additional services for some time.
The City Manager’s authority for approval of these services is $50,000. We have currently exhausted this amount and anticipate needing these services for some time. As such, it is requested that the Commission approve an additional $50,000 in services, which would allow an approximate two to three months at the current level.
