According to Section 3 of Resolution No. 2010-41, “Council members shall be eligible to participate in any insurance program and dental insurance program available to City employees. Each Council member shall have the option of electing to have coverage in any insurance, at the Council member’s sole expense.”
However, City Charter Section 2.3 provides that the Mayor and City Commission shall have health insurance benefits paid for by the City during their term of service. The proposed resolution (2019-59) marries the provisions of the aforementioned sections of the City Charter and Resolution No. 2010-41, by providing for the shared costs of health insurance benefits for Mayor and City Commission, at the level of contribution provided to all eligible City employees.
