Section 2-11.1(w) of the Miami-Dade County Conflict of Interest and Code of Ethics Ordinances prohibits the acceptance of travel expenses from anyone who is a contractor of the City of North Miami Beach (“City”) unless a majority of the City Commission waives the prohibition.
There is a two-day event that occurs annually during the Florida Legislative Session in Tallahassee, Florida, called Miami-Dade County Days (“Dade Days”). During the Dade Days events, representatives from all of the cities in Miami-Dade County are able to meet with the Florida Legislators and Miami-Dade Delegation and bring attention to the needs of their respective communities. The Dade Days event is organized by a non-profit organization however, during the two-day event there are numerous social events sponsored by private organizations which are vendors to many Miami-Dade County municipalities.
Dade Days will take place April 3rd and 4th, 2019, Mayor Anthony F. DeFillipo, Vice-Mayor Michael Joseph, Commissioner McKenzie Fleurimond, Commissioner Paule Villard, Commissioner Fortuna Smukler and City Manager, Esmond K. Scott will be attending.
During the Dade Days event there are several social events which include food and light refreshments and these events may be sponsored by City vendors. The travel expense prohibition provided for in Section 2-11.1(w) of the Miami-Dade County Conflict of Interest an Code of Ethics Ordinance includes meals, in an abundance of caution, the Mayor and City Commission wish to waive the travel prohibition for Dade Days. |
