Miami-Dade County (M-DC) has set a goal of planting one million trees and reaching a 30 percent canopy by 2020. Part of the “Million Trees Miami” initiative involves grant opportunities offered by M-DC to county to municipalities. In keeping with the City’s Strategic Plan Goals of promoting a city that is beautiful and livable as well as pursuing financially sound practices, the Public Work Department successfully applied for one such grant. The Street Tree Matching Grant was awarded on February 23, 2017 (Attachment 1). The $19,500 grant will be matched by and equal amount from the Public Works’ Beautification Division budget (F17). Part of accepting the grant involves entering into a Tree Planting Agreement (Attachment 2). |
